From the Start

This photo was taken on 1/27/05 with my first DSLR. It was a Pentax *ist DS. It was 6mp and I only had one lens, a Sigma 18-125mm POS. This was one of the first photos I ever shot. It has returned from the dead and just goes to show you should be out shooting and making art instead of worrying about what a POS your camera might be. On the other hand, do yourself a favor, buy good glass. Chase Jarvis posted a quote today... "The money spent on preliminary drawings pays off 100 to 1."-michelangelo and also said that the biggest and only mistake he ever made was not getting the best equipment from the start. I can promise you all this, I have spent every dollar since my first camera on the best equipment within my reach and it is paying off HUGE now. The crap I had to hear from family to girlfriends has now turned out to be the best advice I never took. I know this is a rambled post. I just can't believe that the thing I love to do more than anything is paying me back like I never thought possible. I'm the happiest man alive. Enjoy, JP.

Conch House

I skimmed across this photo from the Studio 222 shoot I did early last year. I took some photos of the house built before 1900 in downtown Key West but edited so many photos of women I totally forget about the photos I took for myself. This is the stairway to the third floor. Amazing! Enjoy, JP

Courthouse Kapok

This is one of the most amazing trees in Key West. Its the Kapok in front of the courthouse. It has one major problem. It has one of the ugliest signs in the world in front of it made out plywood that covers a cameras view of the roots from many angles. It has something to do with US1 but I hate it so much I've never even cared to read it. It also has a rainbow on it, yeah, cute. I'm sure everyone in the world who walks by that tree wants to take a photo of it. At least if give them the option of the tree without the sign and move it far away enough so shoot the tree by itself. Or put up a sign worth hitting the shutter for. Here is my version anyhow. Enjoy, JP.

10th Annual Pig Roast, Buttonwood.

Although the pig didn't get cooked in its normal Christmas to New Years window, it still went off without a hitch and most of the core group showed up on short notice. Since the host was a little under the weather on the scheduled date we had to push the party back but with only a days notice we still had the best roast yet. We usually get the pig two days early to give a night to defrost but luckily the whole pigs had just got in and were not frozen yet... very lucky. In less than a days notice we had our normal Yucca, Black beans and rice, with cuban bread with 20 of our closest friends. It makes my year to have this party. I just hope it holds up as long as I do. Here are some photos, see you next year! Enjoy, JP
