I'm glad that i'm to a point where I can appreciate the little things. I wish I was at this stage when Eli was young but unfortunately that isn't the way things work out. I now realize how fast things move. How a weekly thing like cooking pancakes at my Aunt's seems like its hourly. I'm glad I realize that my memory just isn't good enough to take in all the moments I want to remember. I'm glad that my two nephews are closer to me more than ever before and that through them I get those feelings back that I want to remember. I'm also glad that I have a passion to put these moments into two dimensional art that should stay with me for sometime. I'm glad that their are ways around the human mind to live life over...

Posing Anhinga
Nothing particularly amazing but it was my first nature shoot with a semi-long (300mm) lens. The Anhinga is not great looking nor hard to get a shot of, at the everglades you can practically pet them they are so accustomed to people. Its the first time I had a chance to get this close to wildlife and have a nice shot with some Bokeh. The D200 color and resolution continue to impress which makes me want to creat blog posts and share the evolution of my style. Nikon D200 200mm 1/250th f/7.1 @ ISO 200.

Everglades
I took my first trip to the everglades today, which is sad since i've lived in south Florida my whole life. I shot a roll of Kodak 400 and a half roll of Kodak 400 B&W. I shot about 40 JPEG's in color on my D200.
But it seems it always happens this way. I was trying to plan my shots and get something worthwhile to post on the blog. I got in my truck and reviewed the digital shots i'd taken and didn't like a single one.
I was leaving the park and on the way out saw a landscape I might take a try at. It was on the other side of the road so when I entered the trees skyed over me and it couldn't be seen.
So I pulled over and grabbed the D200 which I hadn't put in the case. Switched to custom shooting setting C which I have set to JPEG, B&W.
Everglade pines, Nikon D200, 18-200 VR. 18mm F/9 @ ISO 100. Enjoy, JP.

Here Nor There.
Now that I have a capable tool for capturing difficult photos I started immediately with the stars. This has been a challenging photo to get in focus, while trying to get enough light to expose the stars but still with shutter speeds so they don't become trails, and finding a suitable foreground. Nikon D200 18-200mm VR (18mm) 12.6 Seconds f/4.5 @ ISO 1600.

Go Deep...
This is my first color post with the new Nikon D200. 18-200mm VR 1/3200 sec f/5.6 @ ISO 800. This was taken as I was snapping shots of Rocco to be sent in to Regis and Kelly live to win the cutest kid award. This isn't the photo that was sent in but taken at the same time. The color rendition and saturation are rich and amazing. Hopefully he'll throw some TD's in his day. Enjoy, JP

Antique Eyes.
Antique grayscale in Adobe Lightroom Beta 1 with my new Nkon D200 18-200mm VR at 1/30, ISO 1000 @ 200mm. Don't be surprised if more pictures get published using this technique. As soon as Adobe gets this thing going with layers, i'll have an antique with green eyes. Till then, Enjoy. JP

Free.
Grayscale completely changed this photo and gave it instant emotion. A frigget bird, all alone. Flying over darkness, and in the spotlight. This photo is enigmatic. This photo is the one you want to find when you scroll through the rolls of JPEG's. This photo is Free (not really though). JP

Light'em up.
Cohiba lit. Can't say its my favorite cigar but better than none. One of my many weaknesses and a very symbolic picture. This could just be the break I need. If its up to me this will be in every cigar shop in Key West and from there where it goes, no one knows. I've had this picture, of my hand with a cohiba, for over a half year. I used a very fast prime lense (50mm f/1.8) to take this shot in pitch black, off a balcony, with no flash. Another favorite of mine (obviously, its on the blog). Sometimes it takes a while to figure out when you have a good shot. I know all my pictures mean something to me, thats why I take them. The hard part is figuring out when it might mean something to you. Hope you like it. And if you do, Light'em up.
I'll keep the whole dedication thing going. This one is to Landal, care of cigars on the beaches of the Bahamas. Glad you like the pics. JP

Sunset Framed.
I'm guilty like the rest of us. I'm a creature of habit. I just can't get away. I'm sure living and being in Key West all the time has a lot to do with it. The sunsets are trite. The palm trees are trite. But I don't care. I keep taking pictures of them. So its been done 10,000 times. Not by me. They turn out better everytime and for some reason I just want more. I'm not sure what pulls photo enthusiasts to the photo's they shoot. This is mine. Earth, Wind, and Fire.
This one is dedicated to Laura Nugent. Enjoy. JP

Smoke on the Water.
Not exactly what you think of if I told you one of my favorite pictures was taken in Miami. This was before 7 A.M. on a weirdly foggy morning. This is the lake behind my apartment. I couldn't see it but once I saw the fog I grabbed the camera and went to the lake. I was actually chasing a Crane and missed the shot. It took so long to try and shoot the bird the sun started to come up and I was down the coastline and looked back to a still lake that I couldn't even see beforehand. This is by far one of my favorite pictures to date. JP
