My View...

I guess I should count my blessings more often. Just days after moving into my new house I got a chance to shoot this photo from my upstairs porch. The view is much better when you are settled. I have looked forward for a long time so being in one place. Moving through college, apartment to apartment then moving to Miami. Just living in another apartment with a feeling that I really don't belong anywhere. It felt like I was always working toward the next move. Finally those days are over.
I moved back to Key West because the opportunity to build my own house. I'm fortunate to have parents that would give me such expensive gift, land in paradise.
I finally feel like I made it. Like I don't live by semesters or job titles. But I live in Key West in my house that I built. All I have to do now just hold on and everyday I have a place to come HOME to. Not just pay rent to live in someone else's piggy bank. The feeling is one the best you could imagine if you haven't already. Enjoy the view, count your blessings, JP.

Red Ant Climbing

Abstracted.

I can't figure out why but I just enjoy this photo. The contrast mixed with the framing just seem like it would look great framed. There is something that the 50mm f/1.8 does wide open, a kind of softness that I desire in some photos. I would like some thoughts from you on this one if possible. Enjoy, JP.

Night Light.

For some reason I just got the itch to take some night photos. Set up at the beach for about 20 minutes to see what would happen. Sky was full of stars. I didn't take my Tokina 12-24mm which was a big mistake. I couldn't really get the shot I intended but had some fun nonetheless. Sure wish I had my fisheye again too. Boat Races 2007

VIP passes to see the races this year sure helped get close to some action. Taking pictures of these boats would be more enjoyable if it weren't for the blazing back lighting from the early sun. It made looking into the viewfinder painful and the lighting on the wrong side of the boats, of course. Worked on some motion blur with some limited success. Such as the first photo taken with the Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8 set at 70mm f/9.0 @ 1/45th ISO 100.
The 70-200mm ruled the day with the last photo taken from the 17-55mm f/2.8.

D2X to the limit.

Some people photos which i'm not used to, or comfortable taking. But i'm getting better at it and it sure makes things easy with the Nikkor 50mm at f/1.8.
First, probably the person i've known longest other than my parents. Jenny is probably not gonna be happy that I put her up here, but she'll have to deal with. She is used to that with me by now. This was taken at her work in very low light. 50mm f/1.8 @ 1/20th ISO 800.
Second, Ian, same restaurant. Making the exchange. 50mm f/1.8 @ 1/30th ISO 800.
Third, Chris, out in the harbor attempting to fly fish at night. The fishing was below par but the picture, super cool. Tokina 12-24mm at 12mm f/10 @ 1/60th ISO 800. I took this picture at f/10 to try and get some depth but the line is just too thin to get deep in the black.
Anyhow, the blurriness, motion, and noise from the D2X don't bother me a bit. I actually shoot at higher ISO than I should sometimes cause I like its characteristics so much. Enjoy, JP.

Palms Again.

Weird enough I have shot less landscapes than anything lately. These three are okay. Nothing to write home about. The next post will be the largest. Mainly people photos. Stick around. JP

All Systems Go.

After about a 3 month stint building my house and a fried hard drive I am finally up and running. I'm just installed a new 500 GB hard drive to keep these photos going. Although getting the information from the last hard drive hasn't been easy. I put about 675 new pictures on the new computer last night. All were taken within the last couple months. Since some need more developing and sorting than others I wanted to put the most available up first so they won't be posted by date in any way. These three were all taken at my jobsites. There will be more coming soon from boat races, nephews football games, some new people photos, family candids, and of course some landscapes.
